discomfort, nor tedious vnto vs to se oure weake members (that
is to say vnstable brethren) then the excellent, endewed with
[t'ol. 39".] the nobeler gyftes, for the welthe of the lxole body. but
Rom. ij. with compassion rather soffer with thöyrii, and healpe
to beare their burthens. and not (lift vp in oure owne mynde)
preferre oure selves, und iudge wotlier. but remember that we all
Rom. xij. are one in Christ Jesu. And that we live not for oure
j. Oo. xij. selves, but for the welth and eomforte of oure brethren,
Eph. iüj. by that meanes to wynne many vnto Christ. Marcke this
poynt weil deare chylde. For hence spryngeth, that all prayer,
and ^-oode worcke, of hole christendom, commeth to the ayde,
socoure, and eomforte of eache one of Christis members. And
therfore do they agaynst the hole Company of saynctes, which
seil their goode workes, make fraternites, and founde channtreis
or perpetuiteis, for theym selves, or their frendes. Sonne. Why
sayest thowe I beleve the Remission of synnes? Fa. These
wordes deolare that we whiche are pertaynynge vnto this lioly
Company, thi’ough belefe obtayne remission of those synnes
which we dayly committ through fraylnes of oure flesshe.
So. Wherfore serveth then the Popes perdons? Fa. For
payne procured and deserved for synne. Which god requyreth
of vs after he hath forgeven oure synnes. So. Why, doth god
reserve eny soche pay- [fol. 40“.] ne vnto hym? Fa. Oure newe
Heb. xij. goddes saye so. But yet it is contrary. God chastenneth
ma. xriij. 1 his with many tribulacions, and divers manners of
affliccions, to make theym knowe theym selves. and so to
exereyse theym selves in meknes. Which thynges nether lye
in mannes will nor power, other to admit, or eis to eschewe.
Wherfore the Popes pardons and remissions, stonde to non
effecte savynge only to brynge menne into a waverynge belefe,
and vaine hope. and so to clense mens purses, and to dryncke
up their so wer swett and labours. Son. What is then master ■
parsons momblynge, when he waggeth his honde over oure
heddes, makinge vs beleve to be clensed from oure synnes,
through his murmuracion, which he calleth absolucion? Fa. Nothinge
but a crafte to picke mens purses with all. For as longe
