Argentine, sayenge that he entended to be Christes disciple
an other whyle and to kepe (as nye as God wolde gyue him
grace) the profession of his baptem, and to gett his lyuinge
with his band es, and to lyue no longer ydely and of the
swete and laboure of those captyues whiche they had taught,
not to byleue in Chryst: but in cuttshowes and russet cöetes.
Which Jerom with all diligence I warned of Royes boldnesse
and exhorted hym to bewarre of hym and to walke quyetly
and with all pacience and longe sofferinge acordinge as we
have Chryste and his apostles for an ensample, which thinge
he also promysed me. Neuerthelesse when he was comen to
Argentine William Roye (whos tonge is able not only to make
foles sterke madde, but also to disceyue the wisest that is at
the fyrst syght and acquayntaunce) gate him to hym and set
him a werke to make rymes, whyle he hym seife translated a
dialoge out of laten in to Englysh, in whose prologe he promyseth
moare a greate deal than I fere me he will euer paye ..
Beachtung verdient auch noch folgende Stelle dieser
Schrift Tyndale’s, die wir nach Walter’s Ausgabe der Werke
Tyndale’s für die Parker Society (I. 41 f.) mittheilen müssen:
,It becomes not then the Lord’s servant, to me railing rhymes,
but God’s word .... The word of God is that day whereof
Paul speaketh, [I. Cor. 111.] which shall' declare all things,
and that fire which shall try every man’s work, and consuine
false doctrine: with that sword ouglit inen sharply to fight and
not to rail with foolish rhymes. Let it not offend thee, that
some walk inordinately; let not the wickedness of Judas cause
the to despise the doctrine of his fellows. No man ought to
think that Stephen was a false preacher, because that Nicholas,
which toas chosen fellow with him to minister unto tlie widoios,
feil after into great heresies, as histories make mention. Good
and evil go always together, one cannot be known without the
other/
a dialoge out of laten into Englysh, in •whose prologe he promyseth
m.oa.re a greate deal 1 etc. für die Identität des Lyttle
